Last month, I participated in my first medicine-related “Story Slam,” at the AMSA (American Medical Student Association) convention in Washington, D.C. I had to speak for about 5 minutes, without notes and without sounding too much like a robot, about my path to choosing medicine as a career. I have participated in story slams in the past (in Taiwan, and at the Harvard Asian-American Alumni conference in Cambridge), but it was a new feeling to do so in front of an all-medical audience (plus a few great friends who posed as med students to come watch)!
